Recommended season: Early April to late November
Highest point: 4560m Lake Ahuak
Difficulty: Moderate- Difficult
Time: Full Day
This is a more difficult and challenging acclimatization walk than the others, we start our hike at 3500 m. approximately and we will ascend to 4560m., where the Ahuak lagoon is located. We will walk on a well-marked path for 3 hours and a half to 4 hours to reach this beautiful lake that is rising from the glaciers. As we are getting higher and higher, we will have magnificent views of the Cordillera Negra and in the valley in the background the city of Huaraz and as we get closer to the top, to the southeast we have magnificent views of some snowy peaks of the Cordillera Blanca that show us its splendor. This hike is perfect for those who like to exceed their limits and continue acclimatizing more to try to climb or climb some mountains within the Cordillera Blanca as it serves a lot of support in these cases.
It is advisable to start early, especially on a sunny day as it can be exhausting, another reason is to have more time and better to enjoy the wonderful landscape and incredible views that this place offers us. After breakfast, our private transport will come to pick you up at your hotel and then along with the Guide we will start our adventure, first the transport will take us to the village of Paria Willkawain, where the archaeological complex of Willkawain is located, whose rest belongs to a pre civilization Inca and dating from 600-900 AD approximately. At the beginning we began to walk the first section along an easy and gradual ascent path between the trees of Eucalyptus, after 2 hours of walking our ascent becomes a bit more dour and although some of us lack a little oxygen due to the altitude, our goal is getting closer and finally after walking for an average of 4 hours we reach the Ahuak lagoon.
When you arrive at Laguna Ahuak, you will be amazed by the beautiful landscape and the breathtaking views around the Cordillera Negra and several peaks of the Cordillera Blanca, ancestors and adult people count, many years ago this lagoon was enchanted since within the lagoon you could see all kinds of gold and silver objects, especially when someone was completely alone, he showed all his wealth and charm. After taking many photos and enjoying our snack we begin our descent back to Willkawain Village, where private transportation awaits us to take us back to the city of Huaraz and transfer to your hotel. The walking time back and forth is approximately 7 to 8 hours.
