HUAYHUASH TEKKING – CLIMBING DIABLO MUDO

ITINERARY:

Day 1: Huaraz– Chiquian– Cuartelwain (4300m.
After the breakfast in the hotel, we will pick up you from your hotel and start the travel at 7:00am. Approximately to the south side of Huaraz. Passing for Recuay Province and different district; Ticapampa, Catac and Conococha at 4100m. Then will travel to the east side and south East to Chiquian at 3400m., where you can buy something, the travel take 2 hours then we go down for about 1 hour and go up to Llamac for about 1 hour more, along the way we will observe the Mountains on the east side such as Ninashanca, Jirichanca, Yerupaja, etc. We arrive to Llamac around 11:00am at 3300m., and then we go on, along this route we will passing the small village called Pocpa and small mine before arriving Cuartelwain around 1:00pm approximately. From here we will see the Ninashanca Mountain in the south side; but we have a short walk before get to the camp site, while our cook and donkey driver build up the tents and prepare something to eat. Overnight at 4300m.

Day 3: Cuartelhuain – Cacanan Pass 4700m. – Mitucocha
This day after the breakfast we will start our trek at 8:00am from Cuartelhuain toward the Cacanan Punta pass at 4700m., we will climb enjoying the nice views around us such as Chaupijanca and cunchush, after this pass we will go down for about 2 hours and a half to the camp site and from here we can enjoy the nice view of Nicashaca, Jarishinca and Ronday mountains, overnight camping at 4200m.

Day 4: Mitucocha – Carhuac Pass 4650m– Carhuacocha
This day after the breakfast we will start walking at 8:00am to the south east going up for about 2–3 hours to Carhuac pass at 4650m., from where we can enjoy the nice view of Jirishanca Chico and Grande, Jerupaja chico and Grande, Siula Grande and Carnicero mountains, then we go down for about I hour and a half to Carhuacocha lake, from where we can see again the splendid view of Jiishanaca, Yerupaja, Carnicero and Siula in the west site, overnight camping next to the lake at 4250m.

Day 4: Carhuacocha– Siula Pass 48300m- Huayhuash
After the breakfast in the morning we will start our trekking at 8:00am, we will walk up close to the Carhuacocha lake and near the mountains for about 1 hour and a half till the first and second lake Siula Cocha and Gangra Janca lakes; after visit those lakes we will continue going up to Siula pass 48300m., for about 3 hours, from where we can see mountains such as: Jirishanca, Yerupaja, Siula and Carnicero and jurau mountains. After that we go down to Huayhuash for about 2 hours, from here is also possible to see Trapecio Mountain in the west side. Overnight at 4300m.

Day 5: Huayhuash– Portachuelo Pass 4700m. – Viconga
After the breakfast in Huayhuash we will start at 08:00am, after 1- 2 hour climb up will be arriving to Portachuelo pass at 4700m. from here we will enjoy the splendid views of Trapecio, Cuyoc and other mounts which belongs to Cordillera Raura, after the short break to having lunch over the pass, we will start to descend to Viconga lake and then to the hot spring for about 3 hours approximately, the camping ground is near the Hot Spring, overnight Camping at 4390m.

Day 6: Viconga – Punta Cuyoc Pass 5000m. – Pampa Elefante
After the breakfast in Viconga we will start climb up to Cuyoc pass at 5000m., this is one the two highest pass of the circuit after San Antonio Pass, from here we can see beautiful peaks of Puscanturpa, Cuyoc, Pumarinri glaciers and many others mountains which belong to Cordillera Huayhuash and Raura too. After enjoy this views, we will go down to Elefante Pampa for about 1 hours and a half approximately, where we will enjoy the sun set of Cuyoc Mount, overnight camping at 4250m.

Day 7: Elefante Pampa – San Antonio Pass – Huayllapa 3450m.
After the breakfast in Huanacpatay valley, we will start climb up to San Antonio Pass 5020m. for about 2 hours approximately, from there we will have wonderful views of Siula , Sarapo, Jurau, Yerupaja, Rasac, Carnicero, tsacra, Huacrish, Rosario and others mountains and in this area the English Climber Joe Sipson made a film “Touching the Void”, we will start to descent down the Calinca Valley for about 3 hour, then we will have a lunch in Calinca Valley, after that we will continue Walking down to Huayllapa Village which is the lowest camp side in Huayhuash 3450m., for about three hours, then in the afternoon in the village you can get and buy beer, soda, drinks and also you can recharge the battery of your camera because there is an electricity in the village, dinner and overnight in Huayllapa  at 3450m.

Day 8: Huayllapa – Gaspapampa 4590m.
After the breakfast in the Camp, we will walk up till Tapush pass 4800M., for about 5 hours,the first three hours is more or less steep and then it’s easier to the pass Punta Tapush, from the pass to the camping ground it’s just 40 minutes down and from here we can see Diablo Mudo Mountain, if someone decide go to climb, we can go to climbing it up, because is an easy mountain, good for beginners in ice climbing, it has 5350m., with very nice view from the top to see several mountains, this is an optional tour, and overnight in Gashpapampa

Day 9: Gashpapampa- Diablo Mudo Summit 4350m.-Jahuacocha
After the breakfast very early in the morning (2:30 AM) we are going to leave the camp site around 3:00 AM toward the Diablo Mudo Mountain, until the top it will take us about 5 hours and from here you will enjoy an incredible and amazing view of the several Peaks which belongs to Huayhuash and Blanca Mountain Range, after the break on the top eating our snack and taking pictures, we will start descending by Huacrish valley to our last camp ground called Jahuacocha, where we will have the lunch, time of the tour it will be about 10 hours approximately. If we don’t go to climb Diablo Mudo, we will take the normal route and we will go over the Punta Yaucha Pass 4850m., after the pass we go to the left to get to the last amazing view point (Cerro Huacrish); from here we can see several mountains of the Huayhuash Range such as: Yerupaja, Ninashanca, Siula, Jirishanca, Rasac, Tsacra and others and two beautiful lakes deep in the valley just at the foot of the mountains (Solteracocha and Jahuacocha), then we are going down to Inka wain (Jahuacocha) which will be our camping place for 2 nights, in 2 hours we will be there to have a lunch with spectaculars view of the Jirishanca, Rondoy and Yerupaja Mountains.

Day 10: Jahuacocha – Rest day
After the breakfast in Jahuacocha at 8 or 9 am, we will go to walk around the lake, visit the next lake Solteracocha and practice fishing in the lakes or in the river near the camping place and in lunch we can eat fresh trout. The afternoon will be relax total, so you can also take a shower, read a book and play cards.

Day 11: Jahuacocha – LLamac
This is the last day, so we share the last breakfast together in the mountain and we start walking at 7:00 am until Llamac Village, it takes about 6 hours to get there, where our private transportation will be waiting for us to take us back to Huaraz city (4 hours), and transfer to Hotel in Huaraz.
