The Huayhuash Mountain Range is one of the most beautiful mountain ranges on Earth and is considered one of the most beautiful trekking in the world. Here, the snow-capped peaks of the Andes rise to 6000 meters, and over 25 kilometers, the 20 main mountains are connected by the blue glacier. According to National Geographic it is one of the 10 most beautiful hiking trails on Earth and for many travelers one of the two most beautiful in the world, this is really spectacular.
During the tour of the Huayhuash Range, the wild nature of the Andes, the proximity of mountains and glaciers are amazing. The mountain peaks, the blue lakes and the infinite horizon, are intertwined to offer you this impressive hike and although they seem hard and tiring, they compensate you with its incredible landscape and colossal mountains; it is a true paradise for those who love the nature and empathize with it. One can do it according to the availability of your time, either from a 4-day Mini Trek, and even more days 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 or even much more days. The most important thing is the proper acclimatization, excellent health and eagerness to do so.

Day 1: Huaraz- Chiquian- Quartelhuain 4180m.
This is our first day, after the breakfast in the hotel our guide will be going to pick up you to the hotel; we will start our travel at 8:00am. Approximately to the south east side of Huaraz City, along the road we will pass by Recuay Province and different district as Ticapampa, Catac and Conococha at 4100m. From here we will travel to the east side and Southeast to Chiquian Province at 3400m., where you can buy something or have early lunch, the travel take about 3 hours, then we will go down for about 1 hour and then drive up to Llamac for about 1 hour more, during this travel we will observe the Mountains on the east side such as Ninashanca, Jirichanca, Yerupaja, etc. Arrive to Llamac around 12:00m at 3300m., and then we go on, along this route we will pass by the small village called Pocpa and small mine arriving to the camp site around 1:00 – 1:30 pm approximately. From here we will see the Ninashanca, Jirishanca, Rondoy and Huacrish Mountains in the south, overnight camping at 4300m.
Day 2: Quartelhuain to Mitucocha over Cacanan Punta Pass 4700 m.
After having breakfast we go up toward the first pass Cacananpunta, for about 2 to 3 hours walking up we get there, where we can see Condor (Andean bird) almost every day especially in the mornings. From the pass to the camping ground is about 3 hours more and on the way down we can see mountains such as: Jirishanca chico and Grande, Rondoy, Mituraju, Ninashanca and a bit of the Jerupaja.
Day 3: Mitucocha to Carhuacocha.
This day it’s very easy, because it is almost flat and the view it’s very beautiful, is the first time that we can see the Jerupaja Mountain which is the second Highest in Perú 6634 m, also is possible to see others mountains like: Jerupaja Chico, Jirishanca Grande and Chico and Siula Grande (where was the success of the movie Touching the Void), and one of the best Camping place in Huayhuash.
Day 4: Carhuacocha to Huayhuash
This day it’s difficult because of the distance and the altitude, we pass over the Siula Punta Pass (4830 m), at beginning it is easy but the last part is a little bit difficult; after the pass it’s just down till Huayhuash camping place; but the view during the walking day It’s fantastic, we walk next to three lakes and very close to the impressive mountains (Jerupaja Grande and Chico, Siula Grande, Jirishanca, Carnicero and Jurao A & B).
Day 5: Huayhuash to Laguna Viconga. Visit thermal springs.
This day it’s also very easy because is almost flat until the Portachuelo pass 4700 m. and then just down to the camping place and the Hot spring is situated very close to the camping ground, here we can swim and take a shower.
Day 6: Viconga to Huanacpatay Valley over Cuyoc Pass (5000 m).
After 5 days, we will pass over 5000 m. which is the Cuyoc pass, it looks like difficult but it’s not true because we will start at 4390 m. and sometime is flat and sometime is a little bit steep but as you can see is just 600 m. to get there. From the way up we can see the Raura Mountain Range and Huayhuash and from the Pass both, till the pass it’s about 4 hours walking up slowly and then 1 hour and a half to the camping ground Huanacpatay 4490m.
Day 7: Huanacpatay via Santa Rosa Pass (5100 m) to Cutatambo
This is one of the most beautiful day after Crahuacocha campsite in Huayhuash (walking slowly is between 5 to 6 hours), to the camping place which is Cutatambo; but the view today is very nice especially from the pass (Santa Rosa 5100 m.), from there, we can see several mountains which belong to Huayhuash Mountain Range such as: Jerupaja, Siula Grande, Sarapo, Rasak, Jurao, Carnicero (Metzger in Deutsch), Rosario, Cuyoc, PumaRinri, Paria Ucro, Puka Gaga and lakes Sarapo cocha and Juarao and much more, it’s like view point; after the pass is only down but a bit steep till Calinca valley where is located our camping ground, overnight there.
Day 8: Cutatambo- Rest day– Hike to Cerro Gran Vista 5152 m
Today in our rest day, can just be there or we can go to Cerro Gran Vista 5152m, from this place the view is one of the best in Huayhuash and also we can get to Sarapococha lake where was situated the base camp of Joe sipson of the touching the void Film, we can also see many mountain, now much closer such as: Siula grande and chico, Jerupaja, sarapo, Carnicero, Jurau, tsacra, Huacrish and much more. After visit this places we go back to the same camp and overnight.
Day 9: Cutatambo to Huayllapa Village (3450m)
Today the hike is very easy until the village because is flat and down, in 4 hour we can get to the camp site which is inside of the village, here you can recharge the battery of your Camera, drink beer, take a shower and walk around the village and see their customs.
Day 10: Huayllapa to Gashpapampa 4590m
It’s almost 3 hours going up until Huatiaq 4300 m. after that 3 hours more is much easier to get to Punta Tapush Pass 4800m and then the last 50 minutes is down to get to Gashpapampa, which is our camping place, from here we can see Diablo Mudo Mountain, if you decide, we can go to climbing it up, because is an easy mountain, good for beginners in ice climbing, it has 5350 m. with very nice view from the top to see several mountains, this an optional tour.
Day 11: Gashpapampa to Jahuacocha.
If we don’t go Climbing Diablo Mudo, we take the normal route and we pass over Punta Yaucha 4850 m., as the last higher pass in Huayhuash, this pass it’s also like view point, that’s why we can see several mountains and if we are lucky we can see also Condor Andino flying over us, after the pass we go up a bit to the left and then it’s just down until the last camping place Jahuacocha 4200 m. which is also a very nice place and good for having resting day, here we can walk around the Jahuacocha Lake and visit the next lake too (Soltera Cocha) and of course practice fishing and eat fresh Trout from the lake.
Day 12: Jahuacocha to Llamac. Transfer to Hotel in Huaraz.
This is our last day, so we will share the last breakfast together in the morning and we start walking about 7:00 AM until Llamac Village, it takes about 6 hours to get there and aboard the private bus and come back to Huaraz city (4 hours), and transfer to hotel.
