QUILQUEHUANCA - COJUP


OVERVIEW:

A short but impressive hike, suitable for those who like tranquility since there are not many tourists on the way, touring these valleys you will appreciate an incredible and unique landscape, with numerous snowfalls, beautiful lagoons, varied fauna and flora with capable medicinal plants of curing various diseases; There is also contact with remains of one of the Pre Inca civilizations in the Qillquehuanca valley (Nuevo Tambo), thus making this trek one the best to escape the common and known within the Cordillera Blanca.

Route: Trekking Quillquehuanca- Cojup
Duration: 03 Days / 02 Nights
Recommended Season: Early April to last October
Highest Point: (5000m/16400ft) Huapi pass
Difficult: Easy - Moderate
Average hours to walk: 5 - 6 hours per day

ITINERARY:

Day 1: Huaraz – Quilcayhuanca – Tullpacocha (4250m/13940ft)
After the breakfast in Huaraz, we will pick up you from your hotel and then transport to the East side from Huaraz, after 2 hours driving we will be getting to the Quilcayhuanca entrance at (3780m/12398ft), along this travel we will pass small village like Unchus, Llupa and Pitec where is the start hike point for Churup Lake at (3800m/12464ft),our Donkey Driver and Donkeys will be waiting for us in Quilcayhuanca entrance to transport our camping equipments till Tullpacocha, lunch on the way, along this route we will have a splendid views of Andavite Mount, after hiking 4 hours will arriving to Tullpacocha. Overnight Camping at (4250m / 13940ft)

Day 2: Tullpacocha – Huapi pass (5000m/16400ft) – Cojup
After the breakfast in Tullpacocha we will start climb up to Huapi Pass (5000m/16400ft) for about 3 hours half, before pass we will enjoy the nice Lake named Cuchillacocha at (4625m/15170ft), on the Top we will stay for some minutes to enjoying the splendid views for nice peaks like Huapi, Pucaranra, Tullparaju, Andavite, Cayash, Maparaju, San Juan, etc, after that we will go down to Cojup valley, which is our second Camp named Perolcocha at (4000m/13120ft).

Day 3: Cojup – return to Huaraz
After the breakfast in our camp we will start go downhill along Cojup valley to the entrance for about 2 hours half approximately, where our transport will be waiting for us to transfer to Huaraz, arriving to Huaraz around 1:00pm and transfer to your Hotel

  • Safety horses in case of emergency or fatigue (until 6 pax -> 1 horse, until 12 pax -> 2 horses, until 18 pax -> 3 horses …).

  • Not mentioned or additional beverages or meals in villages
  • Sleeping bag (rental US $ 7.00 per day + US $ 5.00 for obligatory laundry)
